The Reno Gazette Journal is reporting that a 62-year-old psycho who left a note at Sen. Dean Heller’s office in Las Vegas threatening to kill the Nevada Republican has been sentenced to up to four years in prison.

The psycho killer, Richard Brent Holley, copped a plea after being nailed by the police.

A federal judge sentenced him on Monday to 19 to 48 months behind bars.

Holley left a note in July threatening to kill Heller because of his vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

This psycho should be never be allowed back on the street.

 

Elaine Wynn made it clear that she is going to burn the company down

A lawyer for Steve Wynn’s ex-wife told a Clark County judge Tuesday that there may have been “a greater concern” at Wynn Resorts “than what we already know exists to cover up certain things and to make sure my client didn’t pull the curtain back too far.”

Attorney Mark Ferrario represents Elaine Wynn in a legal battle over her removal from the company’s board. In a hearing Tuesday, Ferrario said he received a “highly confidential” document this week related to Steve Wynn’s position in the case that was “directly relevant” to claims his ex-wife has made.

“A high-ranking official knew about it,” Ferrario said.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, details of the document, which was kept under seal by Chief District Judge Elizabeth Gonzalez, were not discussed in court, and it’s unclear whether the new information will be made public before a trial scheduled to begin in April.

Steve Wynn, accused of demanding sexual favors from female employees over the last three decades, has denied any wrongdoing and blamed his ex-wife for leading a campaign that resulted in an “avalanche of negative publicity” and, ultimately, his resignation as Wynn Resorts chairman and CEO last week.

Steve Wynn’s lawyers on Tuesday told Chief District Judge Elizabeth Gonzalez that Elaine Wynn wanted to sabotage her ex-husband’s business and fortune.

But her attorneys quickly rejected the claim, pointing out that she owned significant stock in Wynn Resorts.

Attorney Todd Bice, who represents Steve Wynn, said Elaine Wynn misused the legal process “in pursuit of her illegitimate effort. … Ms. Wynn has made it clear that because she did not get her way, she is going to burn the company down and anybody who is around her as a result. The facts of that show what her agenda was.”

 

Experts say men are becoming trained to avoid women in the workplace

Thanks to abusive men, women in the workplace face even greater challenges according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Heightened sensitivity to sexual misconduct has the potential to prevent women from reaching top positions in the workforce, according to a Las Vegas attorney.

“Of course there is a need for women on corporate boards, but I have some concern about how women are going to get there,” said Aviva Gordon, managing member and attorney at Las Vegas-based Gordon Law.

The most likely way for a woman to rise through the corporate ranks is through mentorship, Gordon said.

“But now because there is so much concern about bad actors out there in the world that I think the good men out there are more reluctant or may become more reluctant to engage in some of that mentorship for fear of allegations coming against them,” she said.

“Nobody is going to say that they’re not going to mentor women ‘because I’m afraid they will make allegations against me,’” Gordon said. “I think they will continue to try to keep subordinate women at arm’s length, and I think it will make it that much harder for women to push through to a position of power.”

Carliss Chatman, assistant professor of law at Northern Illinois University, said for a woman to get on a board she already has to be often even more credentialed than her male counterparts.

The gender parity issues on corporate boards is a self-fulfilling prophecy, she said.

“You have men who say, ‘We only have three women on these boards because they’re the only ones who qualify.’ But the reason that more women don’t qualify is because women aren’t being promoted through the ranks.”

Wynn out, Maddox in

Maddox, 42, joined Wynn Resorts in 2002, when Steve Wynn began rebuilding his casino empire from scratch. Maddox rose through the company’s ranks, working in Macau, then as chief financial officer and finally as president since November 2013.

He was named CEO by the company’s board late Tuesday according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, after Wynn resigned amid sexual harassment allegations that threatened the company’s gaming licenses in the United States and Macau.

No more free money for Nevada affordable housing

As Nevada grapples with a massive shortage of affordable housing, state officials fear federal tax reform has stymied a long-standing funding resource. The free money train has derailed.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that since 1986 the federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program has allowed private investors to reduce their federal tax liability if they help pay for the creation or rehabilitation of affordable rental housing. Last year the program financed nearly 1,150 homes and apartments in Nevada and capped their rents for at least 30 years.

“It’s by far the single-biggest program across the country to generate affordable housing units,” Nevada Housing Division Chief Financial Officer Michael Holliday said.

Right, free money is always good. No argument there.

The program lost some effectiveness with the December passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which lowered the corporate tax rate and decreased demand for the credits, Holliday said.

Apparently he’d rather you pay higher taxes than give up his free money.

Screenshot 2018-02-01 at 19.39.49.pngAccording to the Reno Gazette-Journal, a press conference that lasted less than three minutes Thursday, top city officials said they take a former employee’s claims she was sexually assaulted by a co-worker seriously but refused to answer any questions about the city’s handling of the incident.

The press conference was called in response to a Reno Gazette Journal story that detailed allegations from a former contract employee that the city cut short her employment when she complained a coworker sexually assaulted her. Her alleged attacker was allowed to resign without facing discipline.

In court documents filed as part of a separate lawsuit against the city, the woman said former revitalization manager Bill Dunne sexually harassed her, making lewd comments and grabbing her breasts. The behavior culminated when he trapped her in his car, exposed himself and demanded she perform a sex act.

Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve said during the press conference that she only learned of the woman’s allegations on Wednesday, the day the RGJ story ran. Councilwoman Neoma Jardon also said she was unaware of the incident.

“Last night I was made aware of sexual assault allegations and I want to make sure that our residents know that we take this extremely seriously at the city of Reno,” Schieve said.

The mayor seems pretty clueless.

Last week, Soto confirmed that his department did not conduct any investigation into the woman’s allegations. Instead, Reno City Attorney Karl Hall initiated an investigation by an independent third party and the city handled the matter as a personnel issue.

In the court documents, the woman said she was too embarrassed and afraid to file a police report.

Details of the woman’s allegations were revealed in court documents filed Monday as part of a lawsuit filed by Deanna Gescheider and Maureen McKissick, which claims the city did not protect them from retaliation after they submitted misconduct complaints against former City Manager Andrew Clinger.

The woman, who the Reno Gazette Journal is not naming because she may be the victim of a sexual assault, said she believes the city tried to cover up Dunne’s conduct because of the pending lawsuit by Gescheider and McKissick. Dunne was also accused of threatening Gescheider and making an inappropriate comment to her in that lawsuit.

Transparency and ensuring women’s safety in the workplace clearly are not priorities for Reno.
